How to Rank Higher in Google Tomorrow

Got a trick for you. Will be helpful.

It works extremely fast and it is very reliable.

If you feel a "but" coming in this story... you're right. Because we'll be pushing the rules a little bit with this one.

No worries — we won't go against the rules if you do this right. It's more of a grey-hat thing instead of a black-hat thing.

Here's the key insight: look at the top 3 results for almost any local service search on Google. They ALL have the keyword (or at least part of it) in their business name — for example, "pest control" or "pest control London".

That weighs very heavily in your favor in Google rankings.

So what do you do if your company name doesn't have those keywords in it? Do you just add it to your GBP name anyway?

You could — and a lot of companies do. BUT that can get you in trouble with Google, which is why we wouldn't recommend it. The rule is that you should use your real business name in your GBP. If you add keywords to the business name and a competitor reports you, Google may do a manual check. Can't verify it? You lose the ranking boost — or worse, get kicked out entirely.

That's why we need a workaround. Introducing: The DBA.

DBA stands for "Doing Business As". In some other countries it's known as a 'trading name' or 'alternative business name'.

It's easy to register, very low cost, and in some countries even free.

But the best part? This is now an official name for your company.

So you can safely change your GBP title to your DBA name — adding the right keywords — and if Google ever asks you to verify it, you just show them the paperwork. You're not breaking the rules anymore. You're working within the rules.
