Google Wizards
Hi,
Once upon a time, someone ranked their own website number 1 on Google for: "Best looking man in Maastricht."
As a joke they'd ask people to Google the term and they would always be amazed at this level of marketing sorcery.
One day they showed it to someone who asked: "Wow, how do you do that!?"
So they explained that it was pretty straightforward.
This was a mistake.
Because a guy overheard and started having a full-blown meltdown. Turns out he worked at some firm that did SEO for big companies, so this was apparently a touchy subject.
"No, that's wrong, that's not the way it works at all! You clearly don't know what you're talking about!"
Foaming at the mouth level angry.
The logical response? Just show him the ranking for that particular keyword.
Unsurprisingly — this did not go over well.
He started rattling off keywords his clients ranked for and the amount of 'backlinks' it took and his 'pagerank'.
Blablabla.
People that help you rank in Google are just really, really invested into upholding this image of themselves as arcane wizards hunched over a magic orb that no one has access to.
It's mostly BS.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is mostly just logical thinking. It really is.
Logical thinking + elbow grease + time = better ranking.
Don't let anyone fool you into thinking it's undoable for mere mortals. They're just BSing you 99% of the time.
